ABOUT THE REVUE
The Passing Show of 2019 is a new musical revue celebrating and satirizing the social and cultural events of the past year, featuring comedy sketches and songs written by college students and emerging writers, performed and directed by established artists. Borrowing the title of what was considered the first American revue in 1894, The Passing Show of 2019 is inspired by the iconic Broadway revues of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, which fostered the careers of countless American musical theatre writers. The one-night-only event is a special benefit concert for UnsungMusicalsCo., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization giving new voice to the past, present, and future of the American musical. Its 2019 activities included a Writers Lab; a two-part lecture series for the Library of Congress; a museum exhibit at Yale University; education programs; and the premiere of a new documentary musical tracing the history of black musical theatre.
